"Of course," Chiro said, not paying full attention to Gloria's words, as the light had changed for them. "It's the least we can do. Varen does his best for species equality, and-" he paused as the crowd began to come towards them. Carry him? Did he hear right?

Gloria did not hesitate to scoop Chiro up in her claws. "I can carry you like this if you like!" she said cheerfully. "Or you can ride on my back. I am fine with either!"

Chiro gaped, the air escaping his lungs as he was hoisted up. He couldn't even get the words out, not even at the shocked outcries of several passersby. Feeling his face flush, Chiro quickly replied, "Ah - no! This - This is fine uhm-" He glanced down at the crowd, recognizing a couple face.
"I'm okay! Really! This-" he looked at Gloria, feeling like a small child again. "Why are you carrying me, again?"

Gloria tilted her head. "You were having trouble walking, I thought. You limp, and you have trouble catching your breath." It was only then that she realized the attention she was drawing. Why were they staring? Was it... oh. Oh, did they think she was attacking Chiro?
"I-I'm sorry, I messed up again. I thought it was okay this time." Carefully she set Chiro back down and took a step away from him. She watched the faces of the crowd all around her anxiously. What a bad first impression.

Chiro stumbled slightly when she dropped him and he leaned against her lest fall straight on his butt. "No, Gloria," he stammered. "There's just some cultural differences, is all. We know almost nothing about the Lemarck." Okay, people were staring and Chiro could feel their eyes. They were in the way.
"You can carry me," he said quickly. "But we really need to keep going."

Gloria picked him up with the most gentleness she could muster. She turned her torso and daintily placed him on her back. The people were still staring, but she could hear no shouts. That was a good thing, right?
"Hold on and I will try not to be too fast. Okay Chiro?"

Chiro nodded, wrapping his arms around her as best he could. She was wide and her carapace a little slippery. But people were moving on and they needed to go to.
"This works well, Gloria," Chiro said, not worrying about what would happen when his arms got too tired. "Just keep going down the street and turn left, okay? The Court Building is huge. You can't miss it."

Gloria gave him one last nod and took off scurrying across the pavement. True to her word she didn't move so fast as to throw him off. In fact she took the utmost care not to make sudden movements or turn too quickly. She could feel him gripping her slippery chitinous plates. Hmm... next time it might be better to just carry him in her claws, even if that meant they wouldn't be free for usage.
"Oh..." she hissed as they approached the needle-like spire of the council building. Never had she seen anything like this place with its above-ground burrows like great artificial trees with excavations inside, and this one was the most breath-taking of them all. "This is your Court Building?"

Beings of all races pattered to and fro around them, moving like a sea of ebbing conversations. Chiro shifted himself on Gloria's back as they approached, plexiglass doors sliding away in their wake.
"It is! It's where all the Tarimas and Valdin work, and sometimes stay, if it's super busy. A lot of us have homes nearby. More privacy and stuff, you know?"
An officer glanced at them, and Chiro waved. "Let me down, please, Gloria," he said. "I need to show my identification chip so we can go up to my offices and see Varen. And maybe Omaron, if he's there."

Gloria sat still, a rock in that sea of bodies and voices. She swiveled to look at him again. It looked like an arduous undertaking.
"Oh goodness. It looks like there is enough room for everyone at least. Do you need help getting down?" She hesitated. "And is Omaron another Valdin? Varen is the Tarimas, you said. Right?"

"I think I have it," Chiro replied. "It's just a bit busy here because it's about an hour before the building closes up for the rest days. And yes. Omaron Townsend is another Valdin, and we both work for Varen."
Chiro slide off Gloria's back, stumbling when he landed.

Gloria immediately put a claw to Chiro's shoulder, hoping to steady him.
"Careful!" she hissed quietly.

"I'm okay! I'm okay, really," Chiro reassured both Gloria and the guard stepping out. Reaching into his pocket, Chiro pulled out a card, and presented it to the guard. A quick swipe, a positive beep, and they were on their way. Chiro led Gloria through the halls and into an elevator. A small part of him worried that she wouldn't fit.

The Lemarck followed him without hesitation, though she did bump into a few people on her way through the hall. Everyone was so small and fragile. Hopefully she wouldn't alarm anyone. She was so distracted that she almost ran into the wall when Chiro walked into the elevator.
"Ah. Hmm. This is a small chamber." Gloria tapped at the floor curiously. It sounded like there was a very long burrow above it, and a moderately long one beneath it too. "There is nothing in there Chiro. Why do we need to go inside?"

Chiro smiled patiently. "This is an elevator. It will take us to the higher floors a lot faster than stairs." Especially since he was sure he would collapse halfway to the fifth floor.
"If you come in, I'll show you."
