Mythos Map
Cities, Towns, and VillagesAtapha - Located near mountains and up north, this small mining community has to bundle up when winter strikes. Known for getting hit hardest during the winter - mostly due to rocky soil being poor for farming as well as its location away from bodies of water - very few people choose to live here. Those who do spend their days in mines, digging for precious ore and metal. It is hard to live here, but one may find fortune in the deep, winding shafts that are scattered in and around this town.
Cicero - Down south, this village is dry and hot. Being as far south as it is, the grasslands near Central Capital have given way to a fine sandy soil. The people here are somewhat self-sufficient, surviving off a small plot of farmable land near the oasis and what they can find in there. Many of the inhabitants here are an adventurous bunch and are not afraid to venture beyond their small villages for a day or week or so if it will bring in money or some sort of goods to help them and their family survive.
Central Capital - The center of the known world, it is home to the largest city known to Mythos as well as the ruling monarch. It is the only place known to have the strange obelisks as well as teleportation pads.
DevonShire - Located near one of the only forests known to the people of Mythos, this small city has developed more towards a logging camp than anything. The people here are well tuned with the forest, keeping balance by planting trees for those they cut down. A village grew around the logging camp, small and homely. The people here are a hardy, adventurous type who value their family members
Etruria - Smack dab in the middle of the Twin Snake Lake, Etruria has become a hub of fishing and water trade. This small city is comprised mostly of docks and shaky houses. However, its people are hardworking and honest, spending most of their time fishing for freshwater game to pack and sell all over Mythos. Their bridges are the quickest way in and out of the city. If destroyed, it could spell trouble for the inhabitants.
Far Water Outpost - There is practically nothing in this small village. It isn’t even big enough to be considered that. A small outpost, positioned a bit deeper in the desert, it serves as a lookout post in case of sandstorms as well as a last stop to those who wish to explore the desert. It is hot, dry, and a generally unpleasing place to be around. Rumor has it that a few gangs of thugs enjoy coming here to escape from the law.
Hakea - While Monterosa specializes in its magical school, Hakea boasts about its scientific developments. People were first drawn to this city for its fair climate and lake-side front. However, after trading with Atapha and Midvale for ores and food, they began to grow. And as this city grew, its development of steam-tech grew with it. They are the leading researchers and developers for tech, having made stoves and ovens that run on steam instead of coal and oil. They boast that, soon, they will have humans flying. There is a slight rivalry with the magic-inclined that live in this city; some people even look down on those that wield magic
Icemeet - Despite being in a warm, lowland area, this village got its name for the strange Ice Sand that one can only find in this area. People say that it is the effect of magic that gives the sand and clay here their strange properties. People dig deep underground for the strange blue/white material, fashioning them into pots of clay and glass structures. These strange materials emit a chill, keeping whatever is in them cool and fresh longer without the use of ice. However, once fashioned and out from under the ground, the materials slowly lose their properties, becoming regular bits of pottery in 6 to 8 weeks after seeing the surface. A simple spell cast by a magic user can restore the things, but people wonder just how the sand and clay got like that in the first place.
Jetlan - In the middle of nowhere, one would think there nothing of interest in this growing city. However, this city has made itself a name for its innovative factory work. A bit dirty and slum-like, there are many small factories popping up all over, giving the down trodden a false hope of getting back on their feet. The upper class and those who run the factories give such small wages for such long hours that their workers can barely manage to feed themselves. It is not unheard of for children to be working, and some people regard this place with disdain. Those in the upper class, however, believe this to be a fine system, if they say so themselves.
Laedric - Laedric seems to possess the best of both the magical and technical worlds. It is a prime stop - right next to Central Capital - on the trade route from Monterosa and Hakea. Many magical and steam-tech objects pass through this city... and some even stay. This large city boasts great towers, many houses, and all kept in the best condition by utilizing both steam and magical technology.
Midlothian - Out of place from most other cities and areas, many of the people here keep to themselves. They are less of a city and more of a cluster of small villages. The climate here is mild and the soil fertile, allowing most villagers to live a good, self-sufficient life farming for their family and neighbors. While many people do not venture far from their secure homeland, a few have, and it is not unheard of for them never to return.
Midvale - This city is located just on the cusps of the mountains beyond it. The grasslands just give way to roving hills and fertile soil. The people here have build their city from the rocks and dug terraces for their farms. While it is not a huge hub of activity, the people here are close and spreading out to find new land to cultivate and help feed the growing numbers.
Monterosa - Located just south of Twin Snake Lake, this city has a mild climate all year round. It is never too hot in the summer, nor too cold in the winter. It’s location on the grassy fields of Mythos would make it a fine place to settle, if only the soil wasn’t so loose. Despite that, an impressive school has opened here. One that is famed for its study in the magical arts and application, mages of all ages come here in hopes to learn a thing or two.
Toavia - This small village has a strange bit of weather. It has an unusually long and hot summer, and a winter that is short and somewhat mild. Few trees grow here, and the land is only good for growing tall grasses. This, however, makes this village a prime area for raising cattle. Due to the long, low land, the beasts have plenty of area to graze. Herding contests and cattle drives are not an uncommon thing in this area. Some people even travel long distances to participate in such contests.
Xynnar - Xynnar is a sleepy village with not much going for it. It is a bit larger than a normal village, comprised of several, in all reality. What sets this village apart from other places, however, are the strange ruins that many people have used to help make their homes. Whether using stones to line their houses, fallen columns as benches, or slabs as walls, these people made the most out of what was there before. Perhaps the old and rundown style of this village as affected its inhabitants. While they are not a lazy bunch, they do like taking things at their own pace - whether it be farming, crafting, cattle raising, whatever. Much to the disdain of some historians, they refuse to move and resettle.
Zevore - This city is like a small Central Capital. They have attempted to copy the style of the Middle Tier. Irrigation ducts from Lake Lothoha allow for canals to drift through the city as well as provide water for nearby farms in an environment that may be too dry to grow crops otherwise. Outside of that, their attempts at mimicking the Middle Tier are falling a bit short, mirroring more accurately the Lower Tier.
Natural PlacesLake Lothoha - A small lake that, for some reason, has very little fish life in it. There are lots of hardy plants and mineral deposits on the bottom of the lake, perhaps due to the river washing down dirt and ore from the mountain above. Some believe that there is a lake monster that keeps eating all the fish. Due to those rumors, not many people swim here. However, the rocky shores and cold water was a good deterrent either way. Despite this, some growing children see braving the lake as a rite of passage to manhood.
Oakheart Forest - Oakheart Forest is actually only a little bit of what people believe to be a large and wild woods. Not much has been explored, due to the dangers that have presented themselves again and again. The fringes seem to be safe enough, but those who enter deep and come back to tell the tale weave stories of confusing mazes, terrifying creatures, and strange edifices.
Twin Snake Lake - This is a hub of fishing activity and a great place to hang out. It’s shores are surrounded by nice sandy beaches and, while the fish may nibble, there is nothing big enough to hurt people… usually. It is believed that its two, short river heads were once connected to another river at one point, but no one is sure.
