Rook purred and settled itself on Omaron's lap. "Be good, be good," it said, looking up at Omaron. "Omaron... mm. Omaron. Omaron." It shook its head, trying its hardest to follow the conversation. "No bound Omaron. No bound." It finally got out, shifting its gaze to Roki.
Gale nodded when Rook spoke. Felt in mind, he explained. Thing there. Omaron mind in tact. Can't be insane if mind in tact. I know. His gaze shifted to Emkai. You don't. Omaron sane. It was just a matter of dealing with Shard. And Shard, like Gale said, NEEDED them to keep Omaron alive.
I teach mind protect. Shard no get in. We good. Omaron weak. No fight good, anyway.

Emkai looked very uneasy with the way this conversation was going, but he nodded. "All right. I'll take your word for it, and my vote goes for unbinding him." He gave Roki a swift, apologetic look. "So he has more of a chance if we're attacked."
"That's three to one for unbound then." Roki smiled at him. "It's quite all right Emkai. I do see the merits of letting him loose. But please, Gale, if you could keep an eye on him I'd be appreciative."
Omaron felt a little odd sitting there with everyone else talking about him, but he didn't really know how much he could contribute to the conversation. He did offer Emkai his wrists when the man approached though. As soon as he was unbound he rubbed his wrists vigorously. "Thanks."

Gale nodded, and as soon as Omaron was free, he bound up the man's back and plopped back on his shoulders. Rook did leave now, and nuzzled Emkai, purring.
Rook say thank, Gale said, getting comfortable. Part of him wondered if there was a way to lock that Shard part to a corner of Omaron's mind and be done with it... But another part was terrified at just how powerfully she would retaliate.
Gale glanced at Roki. Have Rook watch? Teach you mind stuff. Protect from Shard.

Omaron made a face but got up without trying to shake Gale off. "I don't remember what happened," he told them plaintively. "I assume something did, but. Well. You might have to enlighten me as to what."
Emkai shrugged. "The thing in your head said it wasn't going to attack us."
"...Oh."
Roki glanced to Gale. "Yes, very good. And then I'll teach you how to use the knife."

Gale nodded and whistled to Rook, who quickly set itself by Omaron's side, leaning up against the man. It was happy. So happy. Yes. This was good. Very good. It purred and watched Omaron with its big gold eyes, tail wagging joyously.
And with that, Gale vaulted himself from Omaron's shoulders and landed against Roki, clinging to her back. Emkai lead. Follow. Teach now. Knife later. And hopefully teaching her would make her feel a bit better about Omaron being loose.

Omaron gave Gale a bemused look as soon as he was off of his back. Apparently Gale just thought other people were there for riding on. He shook his head and took Rook's smaller hand.
Emkai replaced his belt, watching Omaron closely. He'd voted to unbind the man, but he was going to keep a sharp eye out anyways. This business with him not being himself and the beast thing was something he was not comfortable with.
Roki fixed her hood more securely over her head. "All right. Let's begin."

Rook took Omaron's hand happily and swung it as it walked beside him. It hummed a tuneless melody as it walked, always looking up at Omaron and Emkai every couple seconds. "How do?" It asked simply, ears twitching. "How do? How do?"
Gale nodded and got comfortable. Must enter mind, he said. Want know good first. Tell me it good, and I enter and show you how enter.

"You're doing fine," Omaron told Rook simply. "And I think I'm doing all right too." Maybe.
Roki took a deep breath and let it out. "All right. You may enter."

Rook nodded, and squeezed Omaron's hand. It desperately wanted to make sure the man was okay. But it was quickly realizing that Omaron's needs and Gale's needs were strikingly different. It was hard to figure out what to do. "Do fine. Omaron... do fine. Yes." It nodded. "Omaron... uh... do fine..." It whistled, unsure of how to verbalize that he would be good tomorrow, and the next tomorrow and the tomorrow after that too. Instead, Rook just nuzzled him.
Gale nodded, and narrowed his connection to Roki alone. He stepped forward, vision turning tunnel. His mind a step behind himself, Roki's in front. He stepped forward again, distance zipping by him. In an instant, he was standing in front of the pitiful defenses of Roki's mind. He could feel her. All around. like... diluted. He just needed to help her concentrate on her and help her pull herself together.
He felt around for her. Feel? He asked. Concentrate. Put self by me. Can do. See mind. Feel self. Can feel mind self separate from physical self.

Omaron didn't really get what Rook was trying to say, but he got the gist of it. "Thanks." He patted him on the head with his free hand.
Roki slowed half a pace. This was a very odd sensation, like being in two places at once. And walking at the edge of a deep ravine. Gale was on her back, but he was flickering in front of her too.
"I'll... try," she murmured, focusing. And in a moment her point of view flickered into place beside Gale. He, and whatever it was in front of them, was becoming more solid.

Gale glanced over at her. On his back, he was still, eyes fixed over her shoulder, wing flexing slightly. But at the threshold, he watched her walk into view next to her, as if emerging from a black fog. Gale nodded his approval, and perhaps Roki could feel it.
Think on mind. Let Emkai lead, he said. Then he pointed in front of them. That your mind. Can enter, if want. Your mind. But. Gale paused, and his thoughtfulness hummed around them. Feel. Can't just do. Feel. Know more about self. Can do?

Roki kept slowly putting one foot in front of the other, looking uncharacteristically distant and absentminded. Emkai glanced back at her, frowned, and took her hand. They didn't need her running into trees.
In her mind's eye, something vague and full of half-formed images was grinding into existence before her and Gale. It was slow going though, and Gale's words had her a bit consternated. Feeling had never been her strong point, exactly. "I'm trying."
She thought she saw tents rising out of a sort of mist.

Gale watched, shifting anxiously. Patience had never been a strong point with him. But as he saw her mind come into focus, a wave of approval would wash over them, however brief.
Good, he said, nodding, as he watched her. It had never been that slow with Gale, or that hard. But he reminded himself that he had done this a lot more times than Roki and tried not to feel any frustration at her. Can enter mind. Wanna go? What would it be like for Roki? Would she find it easier to access memories or remember simple things like recipes, fighting moves, or things long ago memorized? Would she end up being more aware of the others' minds? Gale didn't know; he had no reference point.

Roki nodded and offered the mental Gale her hand. "That's what we came here to do, so we should do it."
She stepped forward, and suddenly they were in an encampment of grey tents, with weapons on racks all around. Here and there a large desert plant, some sporting flowers, sprung up out of raised beds between the tents.

Gale took it and walked in with her, looking around her mind as they went. He nodded approvingly. This was a nice mind. Not as pretty as Omaron's, but Gale could feel a maturity about it that Omaron's might have lacked.
Look around. Do walls next. Or. Maybe do walls with Emkai and Omaron. Easier, all at once. Know self better now. Surely there was something here that would help Roki with mental acuity? Gale stuck close to the older woman. He wouldn't do anything to get himself in trouble here. Especially when it could really hurt the woman.
