Emkai was fuming. Don't tell him what to do? The child had almost knocked him over by jumping onto his back! And he wasn't a donkey; Gale could carry his own weight.
But this seemed like an important skill to learn, blocking others out of his mind. The Kiltar scared him, though he'd never admit it to anyone else. "Go ahead," he told Gale through gritted teeth.

Gale nodded, and turned inward once more. Emkai was much different from Roki, though the boy had expected that. No two minds were completely alike, and actually having people who wouldn't hurt him and trusted Gale not to hurt them made it fun. Emkai may have sensed a rush of giddiness from the boy as he connected their minds together. They weren't going to hurt him, but even as Gale headed towards Emkai's unprotected mind, his own walls were high.
See mind? he asked, stepping over the edges of Emkai's consciousness. Am here. You, too. Focus in. Can see mind. Can see mine. We go in. Explore. Be more aware of self.

Emkai's mind was a wide, solemn-looking hall built of dark stone. Skylights let shafts of light down to play across many pillars set up down the length of the hallway. The ceiling itself was arched and at least twenty feet above Gale's head.
Emkai flickered into existence next to Gale, his brows raised in surprise. "This is... unusual."
