Gale nodded, a silent agreement to her first assessment. He was more aware of his hunger than Roki was probably aware of her own self. He would have to tell her how to stay aware of both physical and mental soon. It was great being in touch. They had gone into her mind rather far, so Gale wasn't too surprised that she wasn't aware of all the time they spent inside.
Go back to outside of mind, he said, pointing. Remember where go in own mind. If yours like mine, can die in here if go too far. But we not close to that. Can tell. It hurt. Don't go there, or you die.
Gale hopped down from Roki's back and held his hand out to her. Lead me to outside of mind, he said, being a little bossy. Show me know way around. Should feel physical self more closer to outside of mind. Go. Go.

"I can die from something I do here?" Roki sounded more interested than alarmed. "I'll have to avoid that then."
She chuckled at Gale's bossiness. Roki wasn't the sort to usually respond well to being bossed around, but Gale knew where they were and, well, was a child, so it was rather endearing. "All right, just wait a moment. I have to get my bearings."
The fireman looked around the tents, trying to get some sense of what was what. "I think... I think it should be this way," she said slowly, taking a step down an avenue of dark cloth.

Gale followed, nodding. Can always tell when going out, because more aware of body and stuff outside. Going further in, body feels... other. Like doll you make move. Understand? Even as he spoke, they walked. He could feel himself again, the cloth gripped between his hands, the way his toes curled on Roki's hips to ensure he was safely clinging.
When you close to dying space, not connected to body at all. Feel nothing, hear nothing outside. Not good. Don't go.

"I think I do." The more Roki moved forward, the more aware she was of her moving legs, the slight aches and pains she got from sleeping on the ground, the way her stomach churned with nothing more than an apple in it. "I'm moving in the right direction if you're correct."

Gale nodded, seeing the outskirts of her mind. Yes, there. Good. The double vision was favoring the physical world for him. Gale blinked, and found himself on Roki's back, free of her mind. He scrambled up to her shoulders, glancing at Emkai before taking in the forest around them. Not as deep in the woods that would make Gale comfortable. But the trees were still thick enough. They were far from civilization right now.
Out? Gale asked Roki, turning to gaze at her. Would this excursion into her mind change how she saw things? Or was she still trying to exit her mental space completely? Gale poked her head through the hood, making sure not to burn his finger.
"Oooiii," he said.

Roki almost stumbled at the poke, then blinked. She was... back. Or out, at least. The tents were gone, and the grey-brown tree trunks stood all around like pillars in a temple. But somehow... things didn't seem quite as they had been. She could see an odd glow coming off of the others, and not a glow like that produced by her fire.
"Yes, hello Gale," she said distractedly.

Gale tilted his head to the side, a wave of curiosity coming off him. Was she out completely? Or was she having trouble seeing things and making her body move? They did walk to the edge of her mental space together, so if she was still in there while she meant to be out here, that was not a very good thing.
What change? He asked seriously, studying her closely. Things different? How different? Tell. Wanna know.

Roki ran a hand over her face. She felt old all of a sudden. She didn't often feel old.
"There's something around the others," she said quietly. "Like the lamp in a watch tower, that's what it reminds me of."
Omaron and Emkai turned to look when she started talking. "Are you okay?" Emkai asked, sounding a little tense.

Gale nodded, looking from Roki to Emkai and Omaron. He couldn't recall ever seeing... light around people before. Had he? Or was this just a new thing that was happening to her.
Opened up mind, Gale told Emkai. More aware. His attention returned quickly to Roki.
Can hear thoughts? Emotions? Focus on other. Sense mind. It there. You can be aware of it. Maybe.

Roki's brow furrowed as she concentrated on Omaron. All right, time to see if there was some weight to this hearing other peoples' thoughts thing.
For a moment she heard something. It was like Omaron's voice coming through a garbled sea of other voices, fading in and out so she could only catch pieces of words as the thoughts came. "Hungry... soon... stop... worried..."
Then, as though he'd suddenly shoved a good deal of wool into his mouth, the voice became so muffled that no words could be made out at all. Roki frowned.
"I could for a minute," she murmured to Gale.

Gale laughed, and nodded. Good, good! Ahaha! That was great! She could do it! She could hear their voices and read their thoughts. But. That brought a small wave of worry. He rounded on her, clambering around her waist to hold onto her shoulders and brace his feet against her waist so he could look in her eyes.
No invade other minds. Emkai Omaron no defenses. No go into mind. Hang at outside. Can see like own. But no go in. Ever. Ever. Ever. Got it? Go in and hurt, I kill. Going in and hurting and ravaging another's mind... that was Kiltar business. And Gale did not take kindly to that sort of stuff.
He glanced back at Emkai. He should teach this one next. And then Omaron after showing them how to defend themselves. If that thing wanted in their minds, they could at least keep it out.

Roki's brow arced, and her face went very smooth. "Why would you think I'd do that, Gale? Do you not trust me?" She studied the hard little face for a moment before her own expression softened. "I won't though. I promise."
Ovric glanced back at them curiously. He'd felt an odd prickle of irritation a moment ago, and he wasn't quite sure where it had come from.

Gale shrugged. No trust. Useful. Not Kiltar. So stick around. It was difficult for the little child to trust anyone. But her mind was nice, if not a little uptight and neat. But neat was good. She was stable and, in this world, stability was a rare and useful thing.
He caught Omaron's eye over Roki's shoulder, and felt the curiosity come off him. She go near mind. Hear thoughts. He explained, before turning on Emkai and leaping onto him next, clutching his back like a cicada.
You next, he said, still not wanting to go near Omaron's mind where that... that Shard thing was. Soon. As soon as Emkai and Roki could defend themselves against it, he would go in and figure out if he could help Omaron or not.

Roki chuckled a little at that. "I can live with being useful."
Omaron watched Gale curiously as he jumped onto Emkai. Emkai's reaction was... well, what might be expected.
"SMOKE AND ASH!" He grabbed at his back before he realized it was just Gale. "Don't do that next time!"

Gale inched down, narrowly avoiding Emkai's grasping hands. No, he said simply, moving further up the man's back to perch on his shoulders. Don't tell me what to do. Besides, Emkai's reaction was funny. Maybe Gale would do it more often, just to see him react like that.
Go in mind, he said. Learn defend. Then I hunt. Eat. Keep moving. Ready? I go in?
